Project Wolf by Serena Walken

Fantasy Romance

Date PublishedJanuary 13, 2014

Buy. Zoo. Execution. Roxie's fate must be decided and Hero knows only too well that mankind fears what it doesn't understand.
A werewolf romance with a strange twist.

Roxie doesn't know why project wolves keep coming after her. Her hero is always there to stop them, but after a private confession, she never wants to see him again. Until she turns into a wolf with tiger colors.

Hero didn't plan it. Scent overrode common sense that night with Roxie Malone. Instead of any shame though, Roxie didn't remember the event. She blamed him for it and never wanted to see him again. Not even when he's saving her.
As she becomes a wolf with strange colors though, Hero realizes she isn't like him after all. Soon the whole world will too.

*Project Wolf is actually a story that happens one generation before the events of an apocalypse.

Serena Walken

Serena Walken is the author that should strike fear and love in the hearts of her audience. She writes books about love, but with an ending of the world twist. No two books in her series are exactly alike or she would die of boredom. Some of her books are more romantic comedy, while some verge on horror. A mixed bag as well as a mixed up author, but everything ends up with a romantic happily ever after.

It was a young woman, sipping on a drink. A strange woman, Hero realized. The smell was permeating from her like perfume smoke from its bottle. Hero jumped into the crowd. Some people were trying to talk to him, but his eyes were only set on one.
The one with the drink. People around her began to try and talk to him too, telling him how much they cared about him, or about a random time he saved them or someone they loved, or something they loved. It was always very jumbled.
She held her drink in her hand tightly as Hero approached her on all fours. She looked around, before meeting her eyes with his.
He couldn't stop staring at her. People mumbled in the background, but he couldn't even make it out. He was consumed by this ordinary girl. Who held the best but strangest smell in the world.
“Hello?” She waved at him politely, but without confidence. “Good job. You know, with the project. They can be a menace. I mean, some, not all. Not you. If you are one. Um.” She went quiet. “Can I help you?”
“Ladies and gentleman, please step back! Give room!” Someone was always near him somewhere, making sure he never got out of control. As enforcers began to push back the crowd, they made the one with the drink shift away.

Hero grabbed the nearest official with his fangs and held him by his clothing. “Don't do that!” He looked back, but lost sight of her. She had shifted because of the enforcers. “Name. Name, what was her name?”

Blood Magic by T.G Ayer

Title: Blood Magic
Series: Soul Tracker #1
Author: T.G. Ayer
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publication: April 28th, 2014 by Infinite Ink Books

My name is Mel Morgan and I'm a Tracker. I find people for a living. The people I help have no idea I know exactly how they feel because I've lost someone too. If only I could have found the one person I've been looking for all these years.

My current case is no ordinary abduction. Before long I'm neck deep in blood magic - the worst kind. I need the help of a necromancer if I'm to free the kid. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

When sexy djinn Saleem asks for help things get a little hot to handle. But how can I say no? Dodging demons and sorcerers are just part of my day job.

Missing people can be found. Not all missing people are found.
I was good, maybe even the best I knew of. I find people for a living. My business is dependent on people losing people. The idea didn't sit so well with me but it was what it was. Not that I needed to find people for a living. I could very well choose to find things. Finding cutting edge nuclear warheads stolen from the government, locating lists of undercover cops within drug cartels – I can do that. Do the job, find the target, no questions asked. But things held no interest for me. People did.
I find people. And I didn't play to lose.

About the Author

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes... I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It's a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves - it works wonderfully...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

The Cursed by Alexia Purdy

The Ancients of Faerie are awakening, and they don't like what they see. Imprisoned and cursed to eternal slumber in chains for centuries, Arthas, the Unseelie King of Faerie, returns to claim his realm back. The world has changed and the thirst for vengeance is all consuming.

My Review
Arthas is awaken after a very long nap.  Once awoken he wants to take revenge on the others that have put him that way however he can’t get to them (I mean why make it easier for him? ;) )

I love these short stories that take place in between the novels.  It gives the reader a little more in depth look into other characters and supply a little more information that wasn’t given in the other stories.  I am a huge fan of Alexia Purdy and she doesn’t disappoint with this one!  If you have not read any of the other Dark Fairie books, you will need to start at 0.1 (A Withering Palace, another novella that will set everything in motion).  I am looking forward to reading Ever Wrath to see what happens with Arthas, Shade and everyone else involved.

Evangeline by Alexia Purdy

The Land of Faerie is calling.
There are places unknown, magic lures you in and love spands lifetimes.
Don't resist. It's in the blood...

Evangeline is a short story prequel to Ever Shade.

My Review

Evangeline knows that she is different than her sister Jade and realizes that she must go to the forest as it has been calling to her.
I enjoyed this short story about Evangeline as it gives you a little back history about her and shows what lead us to what she is today.  After learning what I have of Evangeline, I am looking forward to seeing if her good side will come out or if she will forever be “bad”.

A great short story to add to your Dark Faerie Collection!

The Through Glass Novella Series continues with the fourth episode in this dark and twisted tale that has been called “Fantastically Dark and Hauntingly Twisted" by Dark Reads

Lex and Travis have walked into a house, a house that became a maze, a maze that has now become a prison. They stand in the dark behind the door that is now their only security from the Tar outside. The Tar that are keeping them from their destination, from reaching Cohen and from stopping Abran from the dark deeds he has planned.

Rebecca Ethington is a story teller and author from Salt Lake City, Utah. She has been telling stories since she was small. First, with writing crude scripts, and then in stage with years of theatrical performances. Rebecca’s first stint into the world of literary writing, The Imdalind Series, was released in October 2012 and since its release each book has been found in several top 100 lists on Amazon. Rebecca is a mother to two, and wife to her best friend of 14 years. Her days are spent writing, running, and enjoying life with her crazy family.

My Review

Lex’s story continues as her and Travis are trying to escape the Tar but is trapped in a closet.  Can Lex and Travis figure out how to get out of the house and into safety so they continue to look for Cohen and stop Abran from her diabolical plan?

I love this series!  Each episode keeps getting better and better and I am at my wits end when I am left at the end cause I am not satisfied…I NEED MORE!!  The cliffhanger at the end was a jaw dropper and I am anxiously looking forward to episode 6!!

My Review:

I thought the book was cute however if this is meant for young readers who are just starting out I feel that some of the words and even the understanding may be beyond them.  The illustrations were adorable and fit what was being written about.   It's a great book for youngun's but just may be a little advanced for the age group

Kiera's Home by Lizzy Ford and Julia Crane

Kiera accompanies her life mate, A’Ran, to the toxic surface of Anshan to assess just how bad things are and whether or not she really can help the damaged planet heal. When she returns, she is faced with a larger challenge, one that threatens her newfound life and home, one too terrible to reveal to A’Ran, who has placed his hope and that of his people in her.

My Review:

Kiera and A’Ran are setting out to make Anshan a better place for all to live however it is all up to Kiera to heal the planet. While bak on Anshan, Kiera learns that the one A’Ran trusts isn’t who he makes himself out to be.  What will happen to Kiera,A’Ran and the planet Anshan?  Can Kiera do what she is meant to do and heal Anshan?

I enjoyed reading about Kiera in Kiera’s Moon and now learning what her next journey is as well as what she has to face just made the story that much more intriguing.  I am totally sucked into Kiera’s story and what she must do as a mate of A’Ran as well as a ruler of Anshan.  She is such a strong willed woman that you know she will going into anything head first and think about the consequences later.  I look forward to reading about Kiera and A’Ran’s next journey!

Rose and the Lost Princess by Holly Webb

Not all magic is used for good...

Rose's whole life has changed in a matter of weeks. She's gone from being a lonely orphan to a magician's apprentice, though she's learned that power comes at a price. Rose's magical abilities blossom, but she's still uneasy about her new powers. Even Rose's friends don't seem to trust her anymore, especially when rumor of dark magic begin to swirl through the city.

Then the country's beloved princess vanishes, and Rose learns she must find the missing girl. Can Rose shatter the power of an evil magician before all is lost?

My Review:

Rose is trying to learn to live with magic with the help of Freddie and Mr. Fountain.  Ross thinks being a magician can be good so she can make money to get out of there but a bad magician is doing terrible things and everyone is afraid of them all; then to make matters even worse the princess is kidnapped and it's up to the three magician's to find her.

I didn't read the first book but I don't think you really need to start from the beginning. This was a great story for the young and the young at heart about good versus evil.  The characters are well written and add their own pizazz to the story.  Rose is a strong girl who knows what she wants and will step up to the task at hand.    The story itself is well written and keeps the reader entertained.  I look forward to my daughter reading this series.

Chronicles of the Uprising
Part 2
K.A. Salidas

Release Date: April 14, 2014

Book Description:
Narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Magistrate, Mira travels west, toward the coast. With three weakened human fugitives accompanying her, she searches for the mythical land of Sanctuary.
After encountering a pack of wolf shifters, headed by the charismatic—and brazen—Stryker, Mira learns that Sanctuary is real after all.  Caldera Grove: home of the Otherkin. Hidden in the mouth of a dormant volcano, it has protected its residents from humans since the early days following the great cataclysm. For Mira— a vampire— Caldera Grove is a land of peace; an escape from the relentless persecution of the humans who once enslaved her, and an end to the daily struggle and bloodshed of being a gladiator.
For the humans accompanying her, Caldera Grove means death. Humans, greedy and untrustworthy creatures, are destroyed before they can penetrate its borders.
To plead her case for entry into Caldera, Mira must abandon her companions, albeit temporarily, and follow Stryker into the heart of the city. What she finds within Caldera Grove presents her with an unenviable decision between her own desires for freedom and peace, or honor and the human companions who risked it all for her.

About the Author:
Endowed with special powers and abilities, beyond those of mortal women,  I can get the munchkin off to gymnastics, cheerleading, Girl Scouts, and swim lessons.  I can put hot food on the table for dinner while assisting with homework, baths, and bedtime… And, I still find time to keep the hubby happy (nudge nudge wink wink). I can do all of this and still have time to write my novels.
Sorry… I can’t even write that with a straight face.
Lies all lies.
Here’s the reality. I’m a sleep-deprived, overworked, mom who just doesn’t know the meaning of the word balance. I try so hard to do it all, (be super mom, wife, & author) and at the end of the day I fall face forward into the couch.
Yes, you read that right, I tend to sleep on the couch. It’s a point of frustration for my hubby and a thing of comedy for my daughter. Imagine waking up to your little child yelling, “Mom slept on the couch again!!!”

Because being supermom (or trying to) means a lot of time devoted to family, writing is often done when said family is peacefully snoozing away. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen asleep with my laptop, on the couch. It just happens. Then, bright and early at 7am either my hubby (on his way to work) or my daughter (getting ready for school) wakes me up.
Writing is my passion. It’s a part of me. More than just a hobby, it’s a compulsion. I have to do it. If I don’t do at least one writing related thing each day I get cranky.
Hopefully, my passion can be your entertainment!

My Review:

Now on the run from the Magistrate with three humans, Mira is heading to the one place she has always thought to be save…Sanctuary.  Being tailed by  the Magistrate isn’t easy and also dangerous, nearly making it out of a couple skirmishes the band of fugitives finally make it to Caldera Grove (Sanctuary).  Caldera Grove is run my Stryker and the one place that can offer peace and normalcy to all Otherkins.  Meet with hostatlity for her friends, Mira must make the choice…leave Sancturary or turn her friends into vampires.  Will Mira turn them or will the Magistrate find them?

This book is a continuation from Dissension picking up where book 1 left off.  After reading Dissension I was eager to find out where Mira would go next and if she would make it to Sanctuary and live the life that she so deserves.  I was enthralled with Complications right from the beginning, holding my breath as the Magistrate approached the travelers until everything was “safe”.  Loving the character development of her companions and their trust with vampires (they are all taught they are animals and will kill at first sight).  The dynamic between the four individual is perfect, each balancing the others out.  Their support for one another is magical (for lack of a better word) after only knowing Mira for a short time.  The relationships of the four individuals grow as the story progresses.  The author did a great job of telling the story and having the flow just right so you’re not bored but eager to keep reading to find out what happens next.

Praise for the Cassie Scot Series

From Publisher’s Weekly:

“Amsden continues the story of the only mundane member of a supernaturally-gifted family in this middling sequel to Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective. Cassie, stubborn and proud, is bravely trying to live on her own after her family disowns her. Struggling to make ends meet, she accepts a case involving a pair of magical girls who disappeared from summer camp. With the aid of the handsome Evan Blackwood, to whom Cassie is attracted despite her family’s disapproval and her own better judgment, she follows the trail of the missing girls. What she finds is a dark side of the magical world, and the hidden depths of her family’s past force her to reconsider long-held assumptions. The growing complexity of Cassie’s world makes this an entertaining installment, focusing as much on the will-they, won’t-they romantic chemistry between Cassie and Evan as on the primary mystery. An inconclusive ending is clearly intended to feed into the next volume.”

Kim Falconer, bestselling author of The Spell of Rosette, Quantum Enchantment Series, had this to say:

“When sorcerers call the shots, what’s a girl without powers to do? Get ready for a ripper of a murder mystery full of romance and intrigue, where magic potions bubble, passions spark and vampires are definitely not your friend. Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective grabs you by the heart and won’t let go until the very last page. Well written, immersive and unputdownable. This is urban fantasy at its best. More please!”

Now that you have read all that, here is a little something from Chrstine

How I Met Cassie

Cassie came to me, I didn’t go to her.

I finished The Immortality Virus late in the fall of 2008, and though I took pride in my second novel, I felt worn out (creatively). When the new year came, bringing with it the opportunity for all kinds of writerly resolutions, I decided I needed to take the year off. I would read, blog, journal, but otherwise give my muse time to heal.

I didn’t make it a year. It turns out, I really am a writer. Writers write. We can’t not write. Taking the pressure off my muse did turn out to have been a great idea, but putting a time frame on it was a bit naive.

Cassie came to me in mid-February, as I played on the floor with me (then) 9-month-old daughter. I won’t go so far as to say she popped into my head fully formed, but it was close. I sat bolt upright, my eyes probably doing that cartoon bulge, as a light bulb appeared over my head.

What if… What if the hero of a fantasy story was the only one in it without magic?

I wrote the first line of the story as soon as my daughter went down for a nap. It read: “My parents think the longer the name, the more powerful the sorcerer, so they named me Nicolas Merlin Apollonius Roger Scot. You can call me Nick.”

Okay, so it needed work. It didn’t take me long to realize I wanted a female heroine. Nicolas (who does not go by Nick and might set you on fire if you tried) became the oldest of Cassie’s siblings.

After that, Cassie told me new things about herself every day. I had a rough draft by the end of June.
