Review - "Enchantment" by Charlotte Abel

About the book:
Channie Belks is trying to hide the fact she's a witch.

Sorta hard to do after her parents slap a chastity curse on her for flirting with "dirty-minded, non-magical, city-boys." She can't even walk by a hot guy without zapping him.

There's a way to break the curse; but one mistake could kill her. It's not worth the risk ... until she meets a certain BMX champion named Josh.

Suddenly, the threat of death isn't such a deal-breaker.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enchantment “Channie” Belts is not your typical teenager, she is a witch.  Channie’s life is turned upside down when her parents up and pack all of the family so they can go into hiding from a very powerful witch family.

Once they have moved to Arkansas to hide out, Channie’s parents are worried that she will turn out like her sister Abby (which is short for Abundance….great name huh?   These types of names are called “Power Names” which simply means that their powers are derived from their name) who had triplets.  In order to stop Channie’s possible fate her parents change her power named to Chastity (another great name….Chastity Belts, poor girl)

Since Channie is unsure of what Chasity’s powers will be like, she goes to the nearest park to test them out and that is where she meets Josh, a BMX racer.  Their relationship is slow to take off but having to deal with the normal teenage “drama”, the change of her power name to Chasity.

Throughout the story, their love is tested and retested and it comes down to what they will sacrifice in order to be with each other forever.

I have to say at first it was hard for me to get into with all the talk about power names and how she hated her parents.  However as the story went on I got more into it and couldn’t put the book down,  I wanted to read on to find out will Channie be able to change her power name back to Enchantment, what will become of her and Josh.  It was a roller coaster ride of feelings but well worth it in the end.  I look forward to reading the second book to this !

Review - "Soulmate" by LJ Smith

About the book:

The psychiatrist was supposed to help. But what came out of the age regressions were memories of another time, another life. And of a stranger who tore her world apart... a vampire who killed a village in his rage. Until, in the eyes of a dying human girl, he recognized his soulmate.

Now the stranger is back. He has searched for Hannah throughout the years, trying to make amends, waiting for her to be born. Now he is Thierry, the Lord of the Night World-- and nothing in heaven or hell will keep him from his soulmate again. But if her destiny is death, can even Theirry's love protect her?

Hannah Snow is your typical 16 year old teenage, she had the perfect life except one thing she kept having dreams and finding notes, which were written by her and containing warnings of upcoming danger.

Hannah finds herself going to a psychiatrist to try and figure out why she keeps having the dreams and finding the notes.  Events seem to esculate when a wolf jumps through the office window trying to kill Hannah.  Her psychiatrist and her decide to do hypnosis in order to find out why these things happen to her…What she didn’t realize is that in these regressions she would see a vampire that killed a village and herself in a previous life.  This stranger realizes when it’s too late that he has found his soulmate.    This strange is Thierry, Lord of the Night World.

Thierry has followed Hannah through all of her lives each of them ending in her death before she is seventeen.  It is up to Hannah to figure out why this happening, whether or not she should trust her feelings for Thierry, and how she can stop her imprending death.

This book had me from the beginning and I soon found that I was longing to see what would happen next to Hannah and if she would realize that Thierry was her soulmate.  I definitely would recommend this story to anyone who loves anything supernatural .

Review - "Night World: The Chosen" by LJ Smith

About the book:
The series takes place in a world similar to our own but one where vampires, witches, werewolves and shape-shifters live among humans without their knowledge. These supernatural races make up a secret society known as the Night World, which enforces two fundamental laws to prevent discovery: 1) Never allow humans to gain knowledge of the Night World's existence and, 2) Never fall in love with one of them.

Armed with a wooden stake, martial arts, and the will to resist a vampire's mind control, Rachel struggles to avenge her mother's death in The Chosen. Then she meets Quinn, her soulmate, who is part of the world she has vowed to destroy.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Rachel isn’t any normal teenager, she is a vampire hunter known to the people of the Night World as “The Cat”.  When Rachel was younger, she witnessed the murder of her mother and close friend Timmy (or little brother, I never quite figured that out).  After that she vowed to revenge them and kill every vampire until she finds the one that killed her mother and Timmy.

This was her life’s journey until one night she meets him…the ruthless Quinn (Quinn was mentioned in “Daughters of Darkness”).  One touch and she knows there is something between them but yet she doesn’t know why she feels the way she does, all she knows is that she can’t and won’t ever kill him.

You see, there are a couple laws of the Nigh World that must be followed because if you don’t you and everyon etha tknows will die.  They are new allow humans to gain knowledge of the Night World’s existence and never follow in love with a human.  The second one is what has been happening between people of the Night World and humans it’s called the “Soulmate Principle”. Once finding their soulmate, there are many decisions/struggles that each of them must overcome.

Without going into a lot of details of the story without giving away too much information, I really enjoyed this one compared to the previous story.  Rashel brings a unique dynamic to the store as someone who is trained to kill vampires but then must question herself and what she has been trained to do all her life.  The question is will she or could she give this up for Quinn??

Review - "The Night World: Dark Angel" by LJ Smith

Editorial Review (copied from Amazon.com)

The series takes place in a world similar to our own but one where vampires, witches, werewolves and shape-shifters live among humans without their knowledge. These supernatural races make up a secret society known as the Night World, which enforces two fundamental laws to prevent discovery: 1) Never allow humans to gain knowledge of the Night World's existence and, 2) Never fall in love with one of them.

From the Publisher
"Call me Angel," he says.
One winter day Gillian Lennow almost dies...and is saved by an angel. His hair is golden. His eyes are as violet as her own. And when Gillian comes back from her near-death experience, he comes with her. An invisible guardian that only Gillian can see, he whispers the secrets of popularity in her ear. Overnight, the once-shy Gillian becomes a sensation. David, the boy she has loved for years, notices her.
But then Angel begins to make bizarre demands. To draw Gillian into a world of risk and dark excitement. At last, she has to face the terrifying question: Who is Angel? What has he brought back from the Other Side? And can she and David find out his secret before it's too late . . . ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Dark Angel” is the fourth book in the Night World Series, each story is unique but yet tied to the other ones.

Gillian is a 17 year old girl who lives in the shadows of her fellow classmates; she’s quiet, has only one friends and like most teenage girls yearns to be popular.  One day while walking home from school she hears crying in the woods and goes looking and this is where she dies. However she is saved by angel who has promised to help her achieve what she wants most…popularity and the boy she is in love with.

Angel is always there for her to help her through life situations and help her understand who she really is until he starts to act strange and it is up to Gillian to try and get rid of him forever.

I have to admit that out of the four books in this series so far, I wasn’t very impressed with this story.  It took almost the whole book before you finally understood how it ties in with the others and it dwelled on what a girl will do to become popular.  In the end I felt there was more that could have been answered as to what is next for Gillian now that she understand who she truly is.  Who knows maybe there will be more of Gillian in future stories.

My next book to be read is "The Night World: Chosen" by LJ Smith (Book #5)
