Review - "Eyes of Ember" by Rebecca Ethington

Joclyn is in hiding, hunted by the man she still desperately loves. Ryland is gone, his mind erased; no memory of Joclyn remains, but Joclyn's heart desperately begs her to hold out hope. Meanwhile the black-eyed monster that possesses him attempts to kill her over and over again.

If it wasn't for Ilyan, Joclyn would be dead by now.

Ilyan, the man who once stalked her, is now Joclyn's protector, the only person she has left. He protects Joclyn from the men who seek to end her life, and all the while, she is haunted by dreams where Ryland begs her to break the bond between them.

Ilyan is there. Always there.

Ilyan trains and prepares her, teaching her everything she needs to know in the hope that one day she can avenge Ryland, if not protect herself from him.

And then, there is her father.

The man who has never been there is suddenly responsible for everything. And who he is has made Joclyn into something she never wanted to be:

The Silnỳ.

Illyan is here to protect Joclyn for those that want her dead.  In order to do this they must go in hiding.  Edmund is erasing Ryland’s mind so that he can be used as a powerful tool to get Jocyln and her powers.   Illyan is going to do everything he can to stop that from happening.  However he also has a little secret that he doesn’t want her to find out what it is.  He is in love with her knowing her heart already belongs to Ryland.  Illyan wants to project her and one way he can is to insert some of his own magic into her however by doing this they are connected more closely now, more than Joclyn truly knows.

Joclyn has nightmares of Ryland and after these terrible dreams, Illyan is there to make her feel better.  She must now train her so that she can go after Edmund and hopefully in time to save Rylan.  She also learns a lot about her father, the man who disappeared from her life while she was a child, and more about about who she is and what she is destined to do.

Book 2 picks up where the first one left off.  Illyan is Joclyn are still in hiding however they learn that the bond between Ryland and Joclyn is so strong that without Illyan’s protective “bubble” around her, it is only a matter of hours before they will find her.    There is just so much more that takes place in this book that Joclyn has to come to grips with and tries to figure out how to save the man she loves without hurting everyone else she cares about.  She also has to try to cope with the growing feelings she has towards Illyan, that man that is always there when she needs someone the most.

If you look Book 1 than you will love book 2!!  Definitely grab the whole series, you won’t be disappointed!!!
