Fifteen year old Dasheen Bellamy’s world is turned upside down, when she is accused of killing her father and godmother. Dasheen cannot remember the events of the night her world turns upside down, but she feels inside that she is innocent; due to lack of evidence against her and with no other family; Dasheen and her younger brother Jordan, are sent to the elusive and mysterious Ame’ Academy ; a residential school where all is not what it appears.

There all goes well, until Jordan, begins to become distant and behave strangely as if he is afraid of something or someone. Jordan is transferred to Ame’ Academy’s Night School track, which is usually only open to special cases.

In order to discover what is happening with her brother, Dasheen is finally allowed to also transfer, attending classes in the evening while the rest of the world sleeps. Soon Dasheen’s world changes again as she discovers that things out of fairytales and horror stories exist, that she has ancient powers and is the major player in a mystical prophecy; and then she falls in love with a boy, whose mission is to see that she is destroyed before her destiny is fulfilled…

Tanya's Review:

Dasheen and her brother Jordan are sent to Ame Academy as they are alone...her father and stepmother have gone missing and no one knows what happened to them or who did it....although many think Dasheen may have done something but can't remember.

Things are starting to go well at the school, Dasheen who is normally a quiet, lonely girl starts making friends and adjusting well into her new routine at the Academy.  That is until things with Jordan start to change, he's distant..not answering calls or text, avoiding Dasheen (or so it seems).

Dasheen is worried about her brother and wants to be close to him so that she can find out what is wrong, so she is transferred (by request) to Night School Track where all classes/schedules are at night. Things start happening to Dasheen and she comes to realize that at Night Track, Vampires do exist and she is now training to become what she is destined to be.....a Hunter.

My Rating:

I liked the book but felt that there was so much that wasn't being covered and thought that this would have made an excellent novel more so than an novella.   The format in which the story was told was unique.  It was set up as blog posts being written by Dasheen which made the story interesting because it was from her own personal views.  I have just started "Kindred" book 2 of the Vampire Huntress series and hope that more information will be divulged.
